RGV500

Having seen quite a few RG500 projects with various seat/fairing‘s I have to say that I decided fairly early on in proceedings to do something a little bit different.  It always seemed wrong to try and squeeze the RG carbs up against the inside of the RGV250 fairing... so I set about finding some bodywork that looked right, and didn’t prevent the bike from performing.  Initially that lead down a blind alley where I spent over a year building a seat/fairing based on the TL1000R with Arthur Birchall and the guys down at ABC in Norfolk, before chancing on a genuine set of XR88/89 bodywork off Kenny Roberts Juniors bike (courtesy of Steve Wheatman who let me borrow it to make a copy).

The tank on the RGV250 always looked a bit on the small side, especially given the larger fairing to clear the carb inlets, so we set about fabricating a new one.  This started off with a foam and filler mock-up using the original tank, then it was off to a Alan Woodward over at Specialized Products near Peterborough to create the new tank.

The fairing (modified to clear the Nova dry clutch), fitted with its screen, and seat are now completed, and primed up and ready for paint.  And the bright blue seat pad is soon to be sent off as a pattern for the trimmers to make something nice and comfy out of Alcanterra.  All in all, the hundreds and hundreds of hours spent on the bodywork finally seem worthwhile....

A few ‘work in progress’ pictures to remind me of the effort involved in the bodywork
